As Product Owner you are responsible for ensuring that we build the product right. This role ensures that development teams always work on well-prepared, prioritised and clearly defined items. The role translates product direction into actionable development work and ensures that teams can deliver efficiently with minimal ambiguity and interruption.
The Product Owner operates primarily in a sprint-level time horizon and works closely with development teams. We operate in a Scrum-inspired development model within a heavily project-driven environment.
Development teams work with a combination of:
product roadmap initiatives
customer project deliverables
contractual commitments
third level support items
technical sustainability improvements
Because incoming work often originates from projects and customer commitments, the Product Owner plays a key role in ensuring that work entering development is:
prioritised
clearly defined
feasible within the sprint
aligned with overall product direction
Remote working is a natural part of our jobs, meaning you can choose where you work from, but you will find the most colleagues in Espoo, Turku, Tampere, Kajaani, Kuopio and Stockholm. Description of the role and responsibilities
The Product Owner helps ensure development teams can focus on finishing work, not continuously re-scoping or clarifying work during implementation. Strong backlog discipline is essential for improving predictability, delivery quality, and development efficiency. Owning the development backlog and ensuring that work entering a sprint is ready, understood, and valuable. Overall, the role covers:
Backlog ownership and prioritization
Own and maintain the development backlog
Ensure backlog items are prioritised according to product direction
Ensure work entering development is approved and aligned with product priorities
Continuously refine backlog items together with relevant stakeholders
Work preparation and clarification
Clarify requirements and scope for development teams
Ensure backlog items are sufficiently defined before implementation
Define acceptance criteria
Ensure items are small enough to be completed within a sprint
Ensure dependencies are identified and addressed
Sprint collaboration
Support sprint planning by ensuring work is ready for development
Help development teams understand priorities and scope
Ensure teams can focus on completing work rather than clarifying requirements during implementation
Accept completed work based on agreed acceptance criteria
Quality and completion focus
Ensure work meets the definition of done
Support moving work fully to done, not partially completed states
Reduce unnecessary spillover between sprints
Third level support coordination
Manage Tier 3 support items entering the product backlog
Coordinate hotfixes, service packs and urgent fixes with development teams
Ensure support-related work is prioritised appropriately
To perform in this role, you must have:
✅ Strong Finnish and English language skills (written and spoken).
✅ Previous experience working as Product Owner.
✅ Experience managing and prioritising backlog items.
✅ Demonstrated ability to clarify requirements and define acceptance criteria.
✅ Experience working closely with software development teams.
✅ Ability to break down complex topics into implementable work.
We are looking for a person with strong communication and collaboration skills, and interest in utilising AI tools to improve productivity, clarity and quality of work items.
Additional experience and skills we consider beneficial for the role:
➕ working with public administration domain,
➕ working with document management, case management or workflow systems,
➕ working in project-driven environments,
➕ coordinating support, maintenance or hotfix work,
➕ working with Azure DevOps, Jira or similar tools,
➕ understanding of dependencies between teams or systems,
➕ improving backlog structure, refinement practices or sprint readiness,
➕ Swedish language.
